Oh, God! (1977)

John Denver spends an awful lot of time naked and/or drenched in this Carl Reiner picture. Ah, the late 1970s were a grand time for movie goers ... Or maybe not. This movie is okay; George Burns is excellent, but I think the satire is buried too deeply under the lovey dovey save the world and be kind to your neighbours message. Reiner mainly uses the amazing Teri Garr as the shrill wife: disappointing. That's the second movie I watched on the weekend with God as a main character: see my previous post. P.S. 70s movie costumes are pretty dull.

The End of the Affair (1955)

Van Johnson and Deborah Kerr play two sad people who want to be atheists and lovers. They are lovers for a while, but God, or World War 2, interferes. I'm glad this adapted screenplay was written by a woman, who manages to not judge the main character for wanting to have a sexually fulfilled life. Warning: this is a very sad story based on an extremely sad novel by Graham Greene.

13 Ghosts (1960)

So silly. And only kind of creepy.
Lots of moaning by the ghosts.
I don't have that much to say about this B (or Z?) movie. Very gimmicky. Lots of screaming by the live characters.
I thought the scariest scene was at the very beginning even before the family reaches the haunted murder house:
The little boy forlornly watches his home emptied of furniture by repo-men because his father can't manage money and his mother's not allowed to get a job outside the home. Then the little boy blows out his birthday candles and wishes for a house and furniture that no one could take away from them. 😭😭😭😳😳😳
